Israeli demonstrators pledge to defy Gaza withdrawal
Some Israeli settlers are vowing to fight Prime Minister Ariel Sharon on withdrawal from Gaza to the bitter end.
Hundreds of them protested outside as Israeli lawmakers were approving a plan that would uproot about nine-thousand settlers from their homes in Gaza and four settlements on the West Bank. One Gaza settler says "no power on earth" can move him from his home. Clad in bright orange T-shirts reading "We have love and love will triumph" the settlers sang, clapped, danced and prayed to the encouragement of religious-style rock singers and revered rabbis. If Sharon's plan goes forward Israeli security forces will evacuate settlers over a 12-week period next summer. The settlers say it will never happen. Copyright 2004 Associated Press.
