Showers, storms and maybe some freezing rain for your Sunday

Posted: Updated:
EAST TEXAS (KLTV) -

Showers, thunderstorms and maybe even some freezing rain will make its way into East Texas on your Sunday.

An upper level low will combine with a surface cold front to produce showers and thunderstorms Sunday morning. The time table looks to start things off around 6am in our northwestern counties near Dallas. The showers and thunderstorms will persist through much of the afternoon hours as the rain moves east-southeast. Along with the rain, parts of East Texas could see hail and gusty winds. Because of this, the storm prediction center has issued a slight risk for severe weather over all of East Texas for your Sunday.

The second half of this weather story comes behind the front. Colder air will funnel into East Texas and that, combined with some lingering moisture, could give way to some freezing rain for some of us. The national weather service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for counties mainly north of interstate 20 for Sunday. This is where the biggest threat will be for any ice to accumulate. The timetable for the winter weather arrives Sunday evening after sunset, but the best chances come between 9pm and midnight.

With the threat for this severe and winter weather, now is the time to download the KLTV weather app, which is absolutely free. You can also sign up for thundercall.

Be sure to follow us on twitter and facebook throughout the weekend for the latest updates on this storm system.
