Watson defense makes alleged victim watch sex tape in court

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Cross-examination for the alleged victim in the sexual assault trial of David Watson concluded Friday morning.

Watson is accused of aggravated sexual assault of an adult, aggravated kidnapping, possession of child pornography, improper photography, and retaliation in connection with an alleged encounter with a fellow Texas Tech student on May 6, 2012.

During Friday's cross-examination the defense said, for recollection purposes, they needed to play the alleged rape for the victim.

While the video was playing, she began crying on the stand, holding her ears.

The defense said that the video demonstrated the opposite of the alleged victim's accusation that Watson pulled her into the bedroom by one arm.

The defense is arguing Watson left her at one point to go to the kitchen. They said that gave her the plenty of time to leave, but she chose not to.

The courtroom became very tense as the victim said, "He raped me and you're trying to make it look like I wanted it."

The jury heard from a total of five witnesses Friday - four from the prosecution and one from the defense. The alleged victim concluded her testimony Friday morning after about 10 hours on the stand this week.

The jury heard from a Texas Tech professor who says she had both the defendant and accuser in class, and then from a forensic scientist who says she analyzed their DNA after the alleged incident.

Also on the Friday, Detective Daniel Williams with the Lubbock Police Department said he recorded an interview with Watson after the alleged incident. That video was played in court.

It showed Watson crying to his mom on the phone, saying he's sorry and he loves her, telling her police have "some bad evidence."

In the video, Watson says his mother was the police chief in Houston and Austin and his father was also a police chief in a town right outside of Austin.

After Detective Williams' testimony, the state rested and the defense called the accuser's former roommate to the stand.

The roommate said she did not know the accuser and Watson were more than just friends, and didn't recall any sort of violence between them.

Prosecution and defense both rested their cases on Friday. Closing arguments will be made on Monday.
