SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
On Thursday, KLTV obtained a search warrant in connection with a shooting that left a Smith County woman dead and her husband in jail on a murder charge.
Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer John Moore says authorities responded to the 1500 block of CR 333 around 11:17 a.m. Tuesday morning where they found Jennifer Mata, 30, with a gunshot wound to the head. She was taken by ambulance to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler in a brain dead state and pronounced dead around 3 p.m.
Jennifer's husband, 29-year-old Adrian Mata, was arrested Tuesday afternoon on charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the warrant, deputies recovered seven cartridge cases, a bullet with the shell casing still attached, a hair fiber, firearms, ammunition, body fluids, blood swabs and a possible fragment from a bullet. Authorities also confiscated two cell phones, a desktop computer and two couch pillows from the residence.
