SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

The Independence Bowl and Duck Commander made the official announcement during a press conference on Wednesday that the two will partner up for the next six years.  Duck Commander is now the sixth title sponsor in the bowl's history.  

According to consultants, 49 percent of hunters watch football. Bill Glenn, president The Breakout Group, a marketing and consulting firm from the Dallas area, says he got idea for the partnership about four months ago.  "It just seemed like a perfect match," says Glenn, "Being a small business in Louisiana, being an hour and half down the road and the profile they carry."

"It's a marriage made in heaven," says 2014 Bowl Chairman Paul Pratt.  Glenn adds "You think through and you think it does make sense, a lot of sense."

Glenn says when he first got the idea he went to the Independence Bowl Commission and then to the Robertson family and months later, the Duck Commander Independence Bowl was born.

Shreveport's own and national radio show host Tim Brando says the agreement is just the beginning, "If you want to be in the big league you gotta play big boy ball.  So, the next thing you must do is keep your stadium up to speed.  Improve it, so that the experience for the participating teams is as positive and as big league as can be," Brando adds.

Meanwhile, local radio show host Tim Fletcher says he believes the move will draw up to 7,500 more people to the bowl, "Because there will be personal appearances throughout the week, there will be personal appearances at the game from the Robertson family. We've had guys call into the show recently who said I haven't gone to the Independence Bowl but I'll go now," says Fletcher.

The Robertsons weren't able to attend Wednesday's announcement because of filming obligations with Duck Dynasty but they did send a video message.  Willie Roberterson, owner of Duck Commander says "The Independence Bowl has always captured what college football is about. It's about country and it's about football. Not just that it appreciates the military, but it's in Louisiana. Shreveport and Bossier City have been great neighbors of ours, so we cannot wait for the Duck Commander Independence Bowl." 

Bowl officials say they plan on having all types of outdoor, hunting like activities for teams when they come to the area.
