Pine Tree ISD approves new AD & football coach

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

It was an easy vote Monday night in Longview, as the Pine Tree ISD board of trustees approved the hire of former Lake Travis offensive coordinator David Collins as the Pirates new athletic director and head football coach.

Collins won a state championship at Lake Travis.  He sees a big future at Pine Tree.

"I wasn't going to leave Lake Travis for just any job in the state," said Collins. "But when I looked into the eyes of the committee members and saw how dedicated they were to really driving the success of this program, it was an easy decision for me."

The Pirates are coming off a three win season in 2013 and haven't made the playoffs since 2001.  Collins hopes to build a winner over time.

"We're going to make sure we are detailed oriented," said Collins.  "That we are having fun at the right time, but we're going to work and make everything happen. We're not going to wait for something to happen, we're going to take it and make it happen for ourselves."
