TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The East Texas man accused of shooting and killing another man outside of Broadway Square Mall in Tyler appeared in court Monday. Ricky Neal Junior, 25, is charged with the murder and aggravated assault of two men outside of Broadway Square Mall in February 2013.

Neal told his court-appointed attorney, Tonda Curry, that he would like to hire his own attorney. In court Monday, Judge Kerry Russell told Neal that he had been ordered to hire an attorney by last Monday. Judge Russell then ruled that Curry would represent Neal until he hired a lawyer and set the next court date for April 28 to give Curry time to prepare for the trial.

In January, Neal's previous attorney, Buck Files, was granted a request to withdraw as his attorney for the trial. The decision of Files and Neal to part ways was a mutual one and prosecutors did not object. Neal's family also said they supported the parting.

Neal is being held on bonds totaling $1.25 million.
