The command center set up at the Clermont County Library
STONELICK TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -
Two people are dead after a Thursday evening crash in Stonelick Township near Owensville.
Authorities say 18-year-old Darin Grubbs, of Goshen, fell asleep at the wheel while driving on US 50. The vehicle, a 1998 Pontiac, reportedly traveled off the left side of the road, struck brush and went down an embankment. Authorities found the car overturned in a creek and partially submerged.
Grubbs was not injured but the two other passengers, who police say are family members, did not survive.
A 4-year-old child was transported to Clermont Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The other passenger, 38-year-old Melissa Grubbs, was missing from the scene after being ejected out of the car.
A command center was set up at Clermont County Library to conduct a search for Melissa. Her body was found in the Patterson Run Creek around 7:40 on Friday morning, nearly nine hours after the crash. Authorities said high waters made the search operations more challenging.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says alcohol and drugs are not a factor in the crash and that the investigation is ongoing.
