NKU professor's film explores hate crimes

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Northern Kentucky University professor Rachel Lyon has written, produced and directed a documentary that explores hates crimes through the lens of Tulsa, Okla.

You watch a 2-minute trailer here:

 

"Hate Crimes in the Heartland" touches on the 1921 Tulsa race riot and the 2012 Good Friday homicides. It also explores the impact of hate crimes on human rights, education and community relations today.

Current and past students also worked on the film.

The film will be shown 7 p.m. Monday at the Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Downtown. A reception is at 6 p.m.
