A sweet tradition: Maple Sugar Days at Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -
Families enjoy a sweet winter afternoon this weekend at Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve in Colerain Township.

Celebrate the awakening of the trees and a harbinger of warmer weather on Saturday and Sunday at  Maple Sugar Days.

Maple sugaring is a tradition that has been passed down through the generations, from the earliest people who lived among the area's sugar maple trees to now.

Families and maple fanatics of all ages can discover how the sticky sap is turned into a sweet treat through interactive outdoor activities. Hike through the sugarbush, watch how sap is collected and boiled over a cooking fire and learn why now is the ideal time for harvest.

Maple Sugar Days is  noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve, 3455 Poole Road. The event is free and open to all ages. Maple sugar treats, including waffles, ice cream and cotton candy will be available for a small fee.

A valid Great Parks of Hamilton County motor vehicle permit ($10 annual; $3 daily) is required to enter the park.
