William Rehnquist Being Treated For Cancer

Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist is being treated for thyroid cancer.

Rehnquist, whose 80 years old, spent the weekend at Bethesda Naval Hospital outside Washington, and underwent a tracheotomy on Saturday.

The extent of the cancer has not been released, though a high court spokesman says Rehnquist expects to be back on the bench by next week.

Rehnquist was nominated for the court by President Nixon in 1971. He's been Chief Justice since 1986.
