TYLER, TX – The East Texas Mission of Mercy had its origin when several dentists in Tyler realized the tremendous need for dental care in the East Texas community. The purpose of the event is to provide free dental treatment and eye examinations for low income adults and teenagers who cannot afford care.
The screening date is Friday, February 28 beginning at 7:30 a.m. Patients should arrive before 7:30 because they will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. The location is Bethesda Health Clinic, 409 West Ferguson, Tyler, Texas. Screenings are necessary on Friday to determine if the work needed can be done on Saturday, March 1, which is the treatment day. All persons who receive treatment must be screened on Friday to schedule their appointment for Saturday, March 1st at the treatment site.
The services to be provided are: dental examinations, extractions and oral surgery, dental fillings, eye exams and vision care. For dental, priority services will be provided for pain, infection, and necessary extractions. Fillings and other services will be provided as available at the treatment sites.
How patients qualify: Families with income below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) and unable to afford care will be eligible. Prospective patients may be identified by local agencies, health departments, county indigent offices, or treatments facilities. BUT all will have the personal responsibility to appear for the Mission of Mercy screening and their scheduled appointment the next day.
