Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene
KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -
Multiple law enforcement agencies are on the scene of a shooting near the intersection of Highway 31 and Old Texas 135 in Kilgore.
Kilgore Police Department Captain Roman Roberson says a woman was shot and killed at a residence around 10 a.m. on Tuesday. When officers arrived at the home, police say a male suspect, armed with a rifle, fired at officers before fleeing into the woods. He emerged a short time later and exchanged gunfire with officers. Ultimately, officers shot and killed the man.
A crime scene has been set up near the bridge over Rabbit Creek, northeast of the intersection and the Texas Rangers are leading the investigation because officers were involved in the shooting.
At least two ambulances and over a dozen law enforcement vehicles are on scene, including the Gregg County Sheriff's Office, Kilgore Police Department and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers. A DPS helicopter aided in the search.
Traffic is being diverted onto Old Highway 135 (Old Gladewater Road). Motorists should avoid the area if possible.
The identities of the victim and the suspect have not been released.
KLTV has crews on the scene. We will continue to bring you the latest information as it becomes available.
