Respect the "K" spilling over to basketball at Kilgore

KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -

Winning state championships, district titles, and making deep post-season runs is normal at Kilgore, for the football program. Now you can add basketball to the list.

The Bulldogs have claimed their first district championship since the early 1980's and will look to make a push towards Austin. Kilgore who has one league game left has a chance to finish a perfect 12 and 0 in 16-3A action. It's safe to say, respect the "K" has now spilled over to the hardwood.

It feels great to be remembered for something, " power forward Nick Orange said. "Our goal was to win district and now since we won district its time to move on and move forward." Small forward Sylvester Conrod added,"Its very overwhelming. Its not something we are used to. And for it to be in the basketball program, its really nice to have." "Its really nice to make history, especially my senior year," guard Clayton Mauldin said. "Its really cool for this town I think, and we were able to do it in two sports."

For consecutive years the match-up between Palestine and No. 9 Van is our Red Zone Game of the Week. The Vandals and Wildcats have met in each of the past three seasons, and Van has come out on top every time. The 2016 game however, was a 3 point contest at halftime. That is before Van quarterback Garrett Moseley and company pulled away. Now a senior, Moseley and Van are off to a 3-0 start while averaging nearly 50 points per game. Palestine meanwhile is 2-1. Stephen f. Austin head football coach Clint Conque paid a visit to the Rose City this afternoon. It's perfect timing to pump up the program, considering the Jacks are coming off a dramatic last second win over Incarnate Word. Put on by the alumni association, Conque was the featured speaker at a Lumberjack networking event. Coach Conque got to brag a little about SFA's first victory of the year. Not to mention that despite a rough non-conference, the Jacks are 1-0 in South...More >>
