Former MSU baseball player killed in traffic accident

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A former Mississippi State baseball player was killed in Dallas Monday. William Scott Tanksley, a Dallas firefighter, died when he fell from an icy highway overpass as crews responded to an accident.

Tanksley, from Kemp, Texas, was a pitcher for the Bulldogs in the early 90s. Following the 1995 season, he was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 22nd round of the MLB June Amateur Draft. He pitched two seasons in the Minors before giving up baseball.

Tanksley, who went by Scott at MSU, was a 14-year veteran of the Dallas Fire Department.
