Officials: Grease fire destroys North Tyler home

Posted: Updated:
TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Fire crews responded to a blaze in North Tyler on Tuesday morning after a caller reported seeing smoke and flames.

Just before 11:30 a.m., the Tyler Fire Department responded to a fire on the corner of West Cochran Street and North Ross Avenue.  When firefighters arrived, the house was engulfed in flames.

Fire officials say the resident was heating grease to fry fish. He went to sleep and when he woke up, he heard crackling coming from the kitchen. He was forced to leave the home through a window.

Five engines and one ladder company responded to the scene, along with a district chief and investigator.

The home is a total loss and there were no injuries. A nearby vehicle was also damaged in the fire.

The Tyler Fire Marshal's Office will conduct an investigation once the fire is extinguished.
