(FOX19) -

A Fort Thomas woman who killed her husband in his sleep was just handed a shorter prison sentence.

Cheryl McCafferty is currently serving 18 years. She can now shave off 220 days in exchange for work she's done to train rescue dogs.

Going forward, McCafferty will also get one additional day taken off for every 40 hours she works.

McCafferty says she shot her husband in self defense.
