National signing day has come and gone, but it was a successful one for East Texas. Over 30 athletes signed to play football at the FBS level and nearly 10 others committed to FCS schools. That includes a few heading to Stephen F. Austin. New Jacks head coach Clint Conque announced his inaugural class of 16 on Wednesday, and its one he's excited about. Of the 16 signees, nine are from the defensive side of the ball. That includes five defensive backs that will look to turn around a passing defense that ranked dead last in the Southland Conference last season.
"Last year we gave up some points and some plays and that's not a secret," Conque said. "We feel like the young men we brought in on defense, all three levels will have an opportunity to come in and compete and certainly contribute and challenge for playing time. At the very least, create some competition and depth at every position."
SFA was also last in total defense in 2013, so changing up that side of the ball was Conque's main focus.
