Longview business plans to add 15 full-time jobs with new expansion

The Longview Economic Development Corporation board of directors will be investing $6.3 million into the expansion of Bates Container, LLC. The expansion will provide 15 new full-time jobs and a 110,00 square foot facility on 19.1 acres. The new plant will be located on Neiman Marcus Pkwy in Longview.

Bates Container added their East Texas facility in Longview in 2004 and says they have been working on this expansion for the past year.

"LEDCOhas been working with us for about 10 years knowing that we were going to begetting to a point where we wanted to expand. Our company overall has reallygrown in the last 10 years," said Bates Container general manager and vice president Barry Hamblett.

Barry Hamblett says they have been in a 30,000 sq. ft. building on Eastman Road for the past 10 years and the new expansion will accommodate the growth of the company. Bates Container is one of the largest independent corrugated converters in the United States that is headquarted in North Richland Hills, TX. They began manufacturing corrugated boxes in 1963.

"We've been pretty fortunate adding positions here in East Texas. We'venot had any layoffs throughout any of the time that we've been here," Hamblett said. "In fact, the company has never had any layoffs to speak of. We've worked reallydiligently to be conservative."

Hamblett says they will break ground on the new plant at the end of the month. He says he's hopefully they will be moving into the new facility by the end of the year.
