A new trial has been announced for a man serving a life sentence for the murders of his wife and stepson.

Jason Thad Payne of Quitman was sentenced to life in prison without parole in 2010 for the 2007 murders of Nichole Payne and her son, Austin Taylor Wages. Their bodies were found in the family's home in 2007, and Payne was arrested for the crime in September of 2008.

In February of 2013, the State Criminal Court of Appeals ruled portions of the testimony in the trial were inadmissible hearsay.

The trial has now been rescheduled for July 14, 2014 at 9:00 a.m.  Pretrial hearings are set for May 20 and May 21, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. each day.
