Power mostly restored after widespread outages in Harahan, River Ridge

Updated:

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Entergy says a fire on Jefferson Highway did not cause widespread outages in the areas of Harahan, River Ridge and Elmwood, where about 8,000 people were without power for a couple of hours Tuesday evening.

The Huey P. Long Bridge had been closed in both directions due to poor visibility caused by smoke from a fire at a storage facility on Jefferson Highway. The bridge was reopened shortly after 7 p.m.

Entergy said the outages were the result of a problem at a substation. Power had been restored to most customers by 7:45 p.m.
