MORRIS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas man is behind bars on charges of kidnapping and human trafficking after police say he tried to sell a woman for drug money.

Lone Star Police Chief Larry Fleet says Anthony Hopkins had been out drinking on January 13 when he asked a woman to take him home. That's when Fleet says the man kidnapped her and drove her around Morris, Titus and Marion Counties trying to sell her sexually for drug money. Eventually, Hopkins traded the woman for drugs to another person. At that point, she was able to escape and contacted police.

Hopkins was arrested at his mother's house in Upshur County.

Fleet says Hopkins has 13 previous forgery charges, a theft charge and 12 controlled substance arrests. Lone Star police arrested Hopkins in 2012 on a parole violation warrant in 2012, but Fleet is unsure why he was released. He was arrested again 2013 on charges of assault of a family member and served 50 days in jail.

Hopkins is being held on $600,000 bond.
