KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -

Kilgore Police Chief Todd Hunter has requested threeyears of reports on a Kilgore intersection where several 18 wheelers haveoverturned.

The corner in question is the intersection of Henderson Boulevard andWoodlawn Street in Kilgore.

We spoke with a resident by the name of John Nelson who lives near the intersection and says he has seen a lot of rollovers there through the years. Nelson has lived one lot down from Highway 259 andHighway 42 for 20 years and recalls details well.

"The last one, they asked us to evacuate. We were gonefor approximately three hours before they told us it was all clear again. Thatwas the first time we've ever had to leave," Nelson said.

Luckily the overturned tanker didn't leak, but emergency crewsevacuated a few houses on January 30 just in case. The intersection had to beshut down until the scene was cleared.

"That had propane in it. That was pretty dangerous. Therest of them I don't think did," Nelson stated.

Nelson remembers four turnovers clearly, but believesthere have been more. One was a cattle truck.

"They all turn over about the same way, so I guess it'sjust got to be that intersection," Nelson commented.

"I think it's the way the road is. There's a little bit ofa slope there. And I guess the truckers, like everybody else, wants to beat thelight. I just hope they find a solution for it before somebody really getshurt," Nelson added.

Hunter says speed and a sharpcorner could be contributing factors.

The chief expects to have the accidentreports by Tuesday, and will contact the Texas Department of Transportation tosee if they have any suggestions to make the intersection safer.
