Good afternoon! We hope your Monday is going well.

Here are some stories for you to check out this afternoon:

1. Two people are in the Smith County Jail on Thursday after a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper stopped their vehicle on Interstate 20 and found over $1.2 million worth of marijuana stuffed inside duffel bags.

 

2. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department says that Lake Palestine produced its second Toyota ShareLunker in less than a year Saturday when Casey Laughlin of Rowlett pulled in a 13.22-pound bass while fishing a Media Bass tournament. Get the details here. Congrats, Casey!

 

3. Another Kacey story today; Wood County's Kacey Musgraves, 2006 graduate of Mineola High School and recent winner of two Grammy awards, is in the running for the Academy of Country Music 2014 New Artist of the Year. Voting ends Tuesday at 2 p.m. CST, so you can vote two more times; once today, and once tomorrow. Vote for Kacey and support East Texas music at GACTV.com.

4. It's a story that almost defies belief: A man leaves Mexico in December 2012 for a day of shark fishing and ends up surviving 13 months on fish, birds and turtles before washing ashore on the remote Marshall Islands some 5,500 miles away. Read his story here.

5. A coach at an East Texas junior high school was arrested Friday for indecency with a child.
Hopkins County judicial records show that 51-year-old Carl Allen Byers was booked into jail for indecency with a child/sexual contact. Byers is on the junior high coaching staff at Como-Pickton ISD.

6. UIL released new alignments for school districts today. If you'd like to see the changes that were made, follow this link to our complete list.

7. A student at Woden ISD allegedly stole a school bus from thedistrict Monday morning. The bus was recovered a short time later. Nacogdoches County Sheriff Jason Bridges said the school bus theft was notrelated to the hoax threat made against the school district Sunday evening.
