SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
A Tyler man died on Saturday after the car he was driving hydroplaned and was struck by oncoming traffic.
Department of Public Safety troopers say Ignacio Gaona, who turned 57 on Saturday, was driving west on Farm to Market Road 346 just west of Highway 69 when his Toyota Corolla hydroplaned going around a curve. Gaona's car was then struck by a Ford F-150 headed east and driven by Reiley Watson of Flint.
Gaona and his passenger, Virginia Gaona, 50, were transported to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, where Ignacio was pronounced dead. Virginia is in critical condition. Both were wearing their seat belts at the time of the wreck.
Watson and his passenger, Amanda Watson, 31, both of Flint, were taken to ETMC with minor injuries. An 11-month-old baby was also transported with minor injuries. The Watsons were both wearing seat belts and the baby was in a car seat.
