Mystery surrounds Mineola man's connection to recruiting illegal immigrant employees

Posted: Updated:

Mineola police are being tight lipped about an investigation that resulted in the arrest of a Mineola man who is accused of recruiting illegal immigrants to work in restaurants.

No specific restaurant in Mineola was mentioned in an indictment released Thursday by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

People at both Chinese food restaurants in Mineola say they don't know anything about a man being arrested today in connection with hiring illegal employees.

A woman living at a local duplex with an address that comes back to Zeng Yu Huang, the same name as the Mineola man arrested in this case, spoke with us Thursday night and said there is a major mix up.

She says there is a man by the same first and last name as her husband who owns Chinese restaurants in McAllen and Sherman, Texas.

She says he must be the person who has been arrested. I looked up the names of those restaurants and there is a man named Zeng Huang who owns Chinese buffets in those cities.

The woman says her husband is in Dallas celebrating the Chinese New Year with family members. She says he is not in custody.

The Mineola Police Department says they did visit the woman's duplex today but no one was arrested. They would not confirm if the family who lives there is in fact related to the man who was arrested in Thursday's investigation.
