Latisha Lane is preparing for the biggest trip of her life. She made sure to pack plenty of winter clothes.
"Yes I have," she said. "And a big coat."
Lane will need the coat. She's headed to New York/New Jersey to see the biggest football game of the year.
"I'm excited because it's my son and he's playing in the Super Bowl," said Lane. "I'm excited about going to New York, I've never been there. But I'm most excited about my son playing in the Super Bowl. I have to pinch myself. But it's real."
It's real. Years ago it hardly seemed likely.
After graduating from John Tyler, Jeremy Lane played his college football at Northwestern State in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Starting just 14 games in his college career, Lane was a 6th round draft pick by the Seattle Seahawks.
"I always told him to stay encouraged," said Lane. "Even tough he went to a small school, he was always one of those kids determined. I always told him son, one day someone will see you. Someone will."
Making the most of his opportunity, Jeremy has become a key contributor for the NFC Champions. And in just his second NFL season, the former late round draft pick, is set to play in the biggest game of his career.
"I didn't see this coming," Lane said. "but I knew he'd do something because he was a consistent kid that loved football."
He also loves his mom, who's planning to celebrate a Super Bowl bowl championship with her son, Sunday night.
"It's going to be a great moment," she said. "I'm sure going to cry."
