Former John Tyler Lion Jeremy Lane hopes to bring a super bowl ring back to East Texas.
"He truly has the heart of a Lion and we don't take that lightly," John Tyler nurse Dawn Johnson said. "JT is well known for our football legacy, heritage, and the pride, and he is definitely one that roars loud and proud."
Lane may not be the biggest name on the Seahawks roster, but number 20 has become one of the best special teams players in the league. In only his second season, the Seattle cornerback is playing in the NFL's biggest game.
"He is making a name for himself, no matter what position you put him in," school associate principal Vanessa Henderson said. "Basically, this goes back to when he said something when he was drafted. He realizes God gave him this opportunity, and he is going to make the best of it. He is not hanging his head that he is not one of the top starters, whenever he gets to get in, that's his time."
Having a former Lion is the Super Bowl is becoming the norm. Kendall Hunter was part of the big game last year, but the 49ers came up short. The John Tyler faithful is hoping for a better outcome for Jeremy.
"He is not one of those that goes off and forgets where he came from," Henderson said. "He always gives shout-outs to John Tyler, when he comes in he goes to the field house and so it would be so awesome to be able to say we have a super bowl star."
"I am not a Seahawks fan so to speak, but I do love football, " Johnson said. "If we have a John Tyler Lion with a super bowl ring on his finger, that is going to make me proud no matter what team it is."
