More Arctic air to sweep through East Texas

(KLTV) -

Cold arctic air is moving into East Texas and some snowfall is likely over the southern portions of East Texas as well. Now is the time to make preparations for local effects for ice and snow, along with the bitter cold air.

Temperatures will be falling through the day from the 40s into the 30s. Winds will be blowing 20-30mph from the north, gusting to near 40mph at times this afternoon, therefore, A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect for most of ETX through 6 p.m.

A weak disturbance will be moving from west to east across the area tonight, bringing with it a chance for light snow toward daybreak through Tuesday morning, for areas along and well south of Interstate 20. The moisture is likely to be more significant across portions of central and Deep East Texas.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Cherokee, Angelina, Nacogdoches, San Augustine, Houston, Trinity and Sabine counties. This advisory is for late Monday night and Tuesday. This area could see between one half inch to one inch of snowfall through Tuesday morning.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Tyler, Jasper, Polk and Newton counties for late Monday night through Tuesday. This area could see 1 to 3 inches of snow along with up to one quarter inch of ice accumulations.

Some locations in Deep East Texas could experience some travel delays along with a small possibility of some power issues. Stay tuned to the Stormtracker Weather Team as we continue to update with the latest information on-air and online.
