Li's victory in this tournament, the first Grand Slam event in 2014, earned her US$2.3 million in prize money.
The 31-year-old, fourth seed Chinese player became the first Asian to win the Australian Open when she triumphed over Dominika Cibulka of Slovakia 7-6 (7/3), 6-0 in the women's final on Saturday. She also became the oldest winner of the tournament's women's title, a record previously held by Margaret Court who was 30 when she won in 1973.
