East Texas coffee sales heat up when cold weather strikes

Posted: Updated:
LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

As East Texans bundle up for more frigid temperatures, many make regular stops to local coffee shops.

Samantha Langston of Barron's Coffee said, "Oh, they're through the roof. People come through here, we can't make it fast enough. Everyone's coming in ordering coffee, hot tea, you name it."

Coffee shops like the Arc and Barron's are doing up to three times their normal sales in coffee.

"We see a lot more people coming in, not only for our coffees but for our different drinks, cappuccinos, lattes," said The Arc's Hellen Hall.

Some say when it gets cold, customers would buy at any price.

"Whether it's regular joe, lattes, frappuccino, espresso, it doesn't matter. As long as it's hot, it's selling right now."

And hot soup is closely following coffee.

Debbie Bolton of Deb's Downtown Coffee said, "Moreso when it's cold. They want hot soup with their sandwich instead of cold chips. Then there's this lady, she likes Snicker bars. Never heard of it."

It's got to be hot, with this cold weather, everyone wants hot coffee.

For coffee makers, the weather is just fine.

"Hopefully, it'll be cold for awhile," Debbie said.
