Latest model shows chances for sleet/snow moving into I-20 corridor

(KLTV) -

Winter returned to East Texas Thursday morning, with the strong cold front winter is making a comeback; a strong comeback.

A very strong Arctic cold front will be moving through the area bringing with it more cold air. Winds will be very blustery Thursday as the cold, dry air moves in. Winds should be out of the northeast at 15-25 mph. Wind chills will be in the 20s and lower 30s this afternoon.

Moisture from the Pacific will ride in from the west, over the cold air that will be in place Thursday evening and tonight bringing a chance for some sleet and snow. Amounts are expected to be quite small, but nonetheless, there will be a chance for wintry precipitation tonight and Friday morning.

Slightly higher amounts are expected over the southern sections of East Texas. The National Weather Service has issued a slew of advisories and warnings for the area.

A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect for northeastern sections of the area due to strong northerly winds gusting over 30mph at times.

A Hard Freeze Warning has been issued for most of the area. Temperatures are expected to drop into the teens and low 20s for several hours. Take the proper precautions now to get ready for the hard freeze.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Tyler, Jasper, & Newton counties Thursday night from 6:00pm through noon Friday, for the possibility of seeing one half inch to 1 inch of accumulating snow tonight.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Houston, Trinity, & Polk counties Thursday from 5:00pm through 9:00am Friday, for the possibility of significant ice and snow accumulations.

Stay tuned to the Stormtracker weather team for the very latest updates through the event.
