PROVIDENCE, RI (KLTV) -

Autopsy results are still pending for the East Texas man who served as the youngest mayor in Gun Barrel City's history.

A couple of weekends ago, police in Rhode Island found the body of 35-year-old Randal "Tye" Thomas in his home. Thomas was elected mayor of Gun Barrel City in the year 2000, when he was just 21. That same year, he served as the youngest member of the Texas electoral college.

Thomas' tenure as mayor was short and full of controversy. He was indicted for election fraud, accused of lying about his residency at the time he filed to be on the ballot. He was also arrested by his own police department for public intoxication.

Just a few months into his term, Thomas resigned as the mayor.

Gun Barrel City is located in Henderson County just 21 miles northwest of Athens.
