Hello, everyone, and welcome to a glorious East Texas afternoon. We hope it's going well for you.

Here are some stories for you to check out today:

1. Chief Meteorologist Mark Scirto is giving us a peek ahead at the weather for later this week: "A very strong arctic cold front is expected to arrive Wednesday evening, bringing with it much more cold air..." 2. Speaking of wintry weather, we've been talking lately about how electric bills are going up for some folks. Well, we offer today 10 tips to help you save money on your electric bill during cold weather; we hope it helps you out!

3. Police say two maintenance workers stepped in when a woman was being assaulted by her intoxicated husband in Smith County last night. When her husband began attacking the workers, one of the men pulled a knife on him in self-defense. Read the details here.

4. The Academy of Country Music is allowing fans to vote for their New Artist of the Year 2014 award, and Wood County's own  Kacey Musgraves is a semi-finalist in the category, and is, notably, the only female up for the award this year. You can vote for Kacey to help her win, so make sure to vote today!

5. A Shelby County jury has found a Center woman guilty of killing her 5-month-old baby girl, taking only one hour to deliberate. Find out the details here.

6. A shooter at Purdue University killed one person at the electrical engineering building Tuesday. Police have a male suspect in custody. Provost Tim Sands said someone had died but did not reveal the identity of anyone involved.

7. When the Miami Heat visited the White House recently to celebrate their 2013 NBA Championship, team members joined first lady Michelle Obama to help create a public service announcement. There were a few First Lady and Lebron photobombs...you can check it out at this link.

    Union Hill captured its first undefeated regular season since 1982.Union Hill captured its first undefeated regular season since 1982.

    When the town of Gilmer is mentioned in relation to sports, the Buckeyes powerhouse football program immediately comes to mind. And that's fair considering they have won three state titles and racked up 13 double digit win seasons since 2000. But a small 1A school about nine miles away deserves some attention these days as well.

    In other college football news, Elkhart native and North Texas running back Jeffrey Wilson scored two touchdowns and had over 70 rushing yards in UNT's win over Army on Saturday. The East Texan's senior campaign though is likely over. Wilson suffered an ankle injury in the victory and will not play against Rice or in next week's Conference USA championship game.
