Manhunt underway for armed robbery suspect in Smith County near I-20

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Authorities are involved in a manhunt for an armed robbery suspect near Lavender Road south of Interstate 20 in Smith County, according to Smith County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer John Moore.

Lindale police say the subject of the manhunt is Adam Heath Bowers, who is wanted in connection to an early morning robbery at Walmart in Lindale on Monday. Bowers is also a suspect in an aggravated robbery that occurred in Tyler on the same day.

Law enforcement say Bowers was one of three suspects who robbed a Walmart located at 105 E. Centennial Boulevard in Lindale. Two male suspects and one female suspect entered the Walmart around 5:30 a.m Monday. The three suspects walked around inside the store for a short period of time before heading to the electronics department. That is when the suspects grabbed various computers and tried to exit the store using a back door. When the suspects opened the back door an alarm sounded, alerting a Walmart associate.

A few hours later, police say Bowers took several items from the Family Dollar in Tyler without paying for them. An employee attempted to stop him and followed him out into the parking lot. Bowers reached into his vehicle and removed a weapon from the back. The store employee then stopped her attempt to stop him.

“When he did an associate observed him doing that and the associate tried to stop him for exiting the store and at that point he pulled out a small black handgun,” Sgt. McElyea said.

Bowers should be considered armed and dangerous.

The Department of Public Safety is assisting the Smith County deputies at the scene. A helicopter is also on scene helping in the search.

We have a crew on the scene and will provide updates as they become available.
