It has just been reported that 51-year-old Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has joined the photo-sharing social media app Snapchat.

Snapchat, a popular app among teenagers, allows users to send a photo that disappears after a designated amount of time.

First reported by Politico's Mike Allen on Wednesday morning, Paul's handle is "SenatorRandPaul." FOX19 sent a Snapchat to him on Wednesday afternoon, and he sent one back saying, "Thanks for the follow!"

Snapchat was created by Evan Spiegel and Robert Murphy when they were students at Stanford University. Since the creation, the app has gained over 4.6 million users and has even caught the eye of one of the biggest social media creators, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who was so intrigued by the new social app that he flew to Spiegel's hometown to offer the creators $3 billion.

Several brands, such as Taco Bell, and sports teams, such as the New Orleans Saints, are downloading Snapchat as way to connect with their audience. However, Paul appears to be the first national politician to join.
