Divorced couple at center of possible murder/attempted suicide case

ELKHART, TX (KLTV) -

Authorities in Anderson County are investigating a possible murder/attempted suicide that occurred Wednesday morning.

According to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, officers were dispatched to a residence at 410 E. Parker Street in Elkhart around 9 a.m. Upon entering the home, deputies found the body of a 42-year-old female. A 44-year-old male was found lying face down on the floor of the home but still breathing.

The woman and man, whose identities have not been released, were previously married. The man was not living at the home at the time the incident occurred.

The man was airlifted to a local hospital. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time. This case is being investigated as a murder/attempted suicide.

According to Elkhart Independent School District, Anderson County Sheriff's Office asked the district to lock down the elementary and middle school after deputies responded to the incident. The lockdown has been lifted on all campuses; the Elkhart High School campus was not affected.

Deputies could be seen taking bags of evidence from the house, which is located on the corner of Highway 294 in Elkhart.

Elkhart is located ten miles south of Palestine.
