National flu-related shortages infecting East Texas

The Texas Department of Health said this is more of a supply issue rather than an actual shortage and most places with no vaccine will be restocked quickly. TYLER, TX (KLTV) - You may have seen the signs that read, “We have flu shots,” but the new concern is if pharmacies have children’s Tamiflu, a medication used to help fight off the flu.

“Locally, we do sometimes run out of the Tamiflu,” Dr. David Davis, a pharmacist at Good’s Pharmacy in Tyler, said.

Dr. Davis put in an order for Tamiflu last summer.

“We try to order ahead so that we’ve got the medication available,” he said.

But that planning ahead didn’t account for this. An email we received from Genentech, the company that manufactures Tamiflu, stated, “nationally, there has been strong and early demand for the liquid version of Tamiflu and up until last week we were experiencing a temporary delay in our ability to package this formulation resulting in some spot shortages around the country.”

“The more number of flu cases that are out there, the more likely the manufacturer is to have a shortage,” Dr. Davis said.

Good’s did have a shortage in liquid Tamiflu around Christmas, but has since restocked.

We called multiple East Texas pharmacies to check on supplies Tuesday, and most had both Tamiflu for adults and children, but more and more pharmacies said they were out of certain forms of the actual flu vaccine. Some had vaccines for adults, but none for children, and a few had none at all.

“I have had different customers in saying that different pharmacies and doctor's offices are out, so we’ve had a rush on it in the past week because we were one of the last pharmacies that had it,” he said.

The Texas Department of Health said this is more of a supply issue rather than an actual shortage and most places with no vaccine will be restocked quickly.

Ghost stories and haunted houses have long been a popular past time, but just how much truth is there to the legends? "As Shakespeare said there are more things in heaven and earth then are in your books,” says Big Foot Expert Jeff Hurley. “There are things we don't understand." At the April 21, Paranormal Conference, experts in the subject came together to further explore their theories.

"Often time people that get rabies from bats, don't realize they've come in contact with one.
