KILGORE, TX (KLTV) - William Emmett Lawson, 51, of Kilgore plead guilty to aggravated kidnapping in front of a grand jury for his involvement in a May 2013 incident. Lawson was originally charged with attempted murder.

According to the Kilgore Police Department, officers responded to a suspicious vehicle/welfare concern in the 500 block of Gladewater Street on May 2 at 4:35 p.m. Upon arrival, officers encountered Lawson and his father, 76-year-old Robert Lawson, inside a 1985 Chevrolet pick-up. A strong smell of propane gas was coming from the vehicle.

Police initiated contact with Lawson who then threatened to ignite the propane, killing himself, his father and responding officers. With the assistance of Kilgore Fire Department, the truck was breached and the occupants were removed.

Lawson remains in the Gregg County Jail. He is expected to be sentenced Tuesday.
