PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A father was assaulted after two armed men broke into his family's west Phoenix home early Thursday morning.

The man, his wife and two children were asleep when the men broke through the front door of the home near Camelback Road and 101st Avenue about 4 a.m., Phoenix police Sgt. Jerry Hester said.

Sgt. Trent Crump said the men yelled "police" as they kicked in the door, pointed weapons at the man and woman and then bound the man.

The suspects demanded drugs from the couple, and when the man said he didn't have any, he was assaulted, Crump said.

Hester said the motive was robbery, but it was unclear why the suspects picked that house.

The man was taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure, Hester said.

The men were described as light-skinned Hispanics, one heavyset and about 6' tall, the other thin and about 5'6" tall. Both were wearing black hooded sweatshirts and both were armed, Hester said.

They left in an unidentified vehicle, Crump said.

No other information was immediately available.
