PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A bicyclist was killed when he crossed in front of a vehicle at 28th Avenue and McDowell Road Wednesday night, Phoenix police said.

The car was carrying three adults and two children.

The vehicle was driving the speed limit eastbound on McDowell Road at 6:20 p.m., said Phoenix Police Lt. John White.

The bicyclist appeared with no light or other safety devices.

"He came out of nowhere and crossed in front of them," White said. The collision propelled the bike 50 yards from the crash scene, White said.

The driver of the vehicle stopped and called police. No one in the vehicle was hurt.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.
