ATHENS, TX (KLTV) - A Dallas-Fort Worth man was killed and three others were hospitalized in a wreck on Highway 175 west of Athens on Tuesday afternoon.

Department of Public Safety officials say a 2007 Ford truck driven by Edward Sparkman, 60, of Mabank, tried to pass a 2000 Lincoln Town Car driven by Blue Edwards, 64, of Balch Spring. With both vehicles traveling east, Sparkman attempted to change lanes in an "unsafe manner", forcing Edwards into the median. Edwards then reentered the roadway, colliding with Sparkman's truck.

Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:51 p.m. A passenger in his car, Vickie Reynya, 53 was taken to East Texas Medical Center in Athens. Sparkman was taken to ETMC in Tyler in serious condition. His passenger, Raymond Joiner, 43, of Tool, was also taken to ETMC in Athens.
