PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A man was looking for a new place to live after a garage fire to his Phoenix home Wednesday morning.

The fire started just before 8 a.m. in a detached garage before spreading into the house's attic in the area of 12th Street and Interstate 10, said Phoenix Fire Capt. Ruben Saavedra.

A friend living in the backyard alerted a man living in the house to the fire, and both were able to escape without injury.

Flames and smoke were reaching to a second home, but crews were able to contain the fire to one home, Saavedra said.

The cause of the fire was being determined, Saavedra said.

No other information was immediately available.
