PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Two rapes in two different cities, but one possible suspect?

That's what Glendale and Phoenix police are looking into after two teenage girls were sexually assaulted.

The crimes have many similarities and police say it's possible they're related.

The Glendale assault happened Sept. 29 at a car wash near 59th Avenue and Camelback. The victim is a 15-year old girl. Police say the suspect showed the girl a gun and forced her into his car. He then raped her and let her go.

The Phoenix rape happened Dec. 17. The victim is a 14-year-old girl. The suspect picked up his victim near 16th Street and Union Hills. He then drove her to 19th and Grovers avenues, where he raped her, then let her go. Police say in this case, the suspect tricked the girl into getting into his car by asking for directions.

"There are differences in terms of the MO [method of operation]. One, there was a weapon. This one there wasn't. Those are things that doesn't necessarily discount it because suspects change MOs, but we're still looking into it to see if we can definitely link them together," Phoenix police Sgt. Darren Burch said.

Police say the suspect in the Phoenix attack was driving a green, newer-model four-door car. He might live in the area between Union Hills and Bell, and 19th Avenue and 16th Street, because of where he picked up his victim and where the attack happened.

In the Phoenix case, neighbors were upset because it took three weeks for police to release the photos. Police say the victim was out of town and it wasn't until Friday that she confirmed the man in the photos was the suspect. Police released the photos the next day.
