Mystery continues in death of Arkansas man crawling on East Texas interstate

MARSHALL, TX (KLTV) -

The investigation continues into the death of an Arkansas man who was struck by a car while crawling on an East Texas interstate.

DPS officials say on December 23, 2013, 35-year-old Michael Haltom of Arkansas was seen crawling in the eastbound lanes of I-20, about eight miles west of Marshall.

Officials tell us Haltom was struck by at least two vehicles, one of them an 18-wheeler, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have no clues into why he was in the road in the first place.

"Mr. Haltom was struck by at least two vehicles that we know of while he was on the roadway. We don't know what happened. It is still a mystery as to why he was on the roadway; we don't have a vehicle connected to him getting there. Was he visiting friends down here? How did he end up in Marshall, Texas, Harrison county, on the highway?" says Harrison County Sheriffs office Administrative Deputy Jay Webb.

Investigators are talking to Haltom's family to try to get answers.
