SULPHUR SPRINGS, TX (KLTV) - Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting of a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game warden earlier this week.
18-year-old, Eli Stephens is charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, while 21-year-old, Dalton Haddix is charged with failure to report a felony.
Authorities say both men are from Illinois and were visiting East Texas for the holidays.
On Sunday, game warden Christopher Fried was bow hunting off duty in a wildlife management area in Cooper, north of Sulphur Springs, when he saw a light and went to investigate a possible case of illegal hunting.
He was struck in the right shoulder by a bullet that entered his chest.
Christopher Fried remains in a Dallas hospital recovering from his injuries.
Delta County authorities say Stephens and Haddix were hunting on an adjacent property near the wildlife management area where Fried was shot.
Both men were booked into the Delta County Jail.
