On December 23, Longview police found the body of 19-year-old Andres Chavez beaten and his throat cut.

The sister of 22-year-old Alejandro Garcia Gallegos came forward, telling police she thought her brother might have had something to do with Chavez's death.
Police searched the crime scene and, according to this arrest affidavit, found a portion of a black wooden bat as well as a torn fingertip from a black glove, two things Gallegos' sister said were missing from her family's home.

Gallegos' sister told police that her brother believed Chavez wanted to rape her, so he set up a fake Facebook account pretending to be a girl by the name of Monica, so he could lure Chavez and "end" any chance of Chavez hurting his sister.

On Facebook, Chavez and Monica are "in a relationship" according to the fake girlfriend's page.

The arrest affidavit states that Chavez was supposed to meet Monica that night, not knowing he would really be meeting Gallegos.

Chavez's body was found in a wooded area; the autopsy report revealed he died of blunt force trauma.

Gallegos reportedly called his sister after that night and said "Don't get scared...Andres is in heaven now," and when his sister asked if he was responsible for Chavez's murder, the arrest affidavit said he responded by saying he did not do it, that his friends had helped him.

The Longview SWAT team, Longview police and the Smith County Sheriff's Office executed a search and arrest warrant on Friday, December 27, that ended with Gallegos' arrest.

Gallegos remains behind bars in the Gregg County Jail charged with murder. His bond is set at $500,000.

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Longview Police Department.
