Ramada guests nervous after four fires in 24 hours

Four fires in less than 24 hours at the Ramada Inn left many guests nervous about staying there, because police say they were all set by an arsonist.

"Who knows if they're going to come through again and set more fires," said Sheena Dixon.

"The past couple of hours have been stressful," said Michael Doulin. "My son stays here and I'm worried about if the fire's going to reach his room or something."

Doulin has been out to the Ramada Inn four times in the past 24 hours, because his son and mother have had to evacuate their room, along with everyone else who lives there.

"It's just not right. This weather, how it is right now, and them coming out here having to evacuate so many times," Doulin said, "My son could get sick."

The first fire started in a utility room early Monday morning. Firefighters were called back a few hours later for another fire. While they were fighting that one, someone set a third fire in a bedroom.

Those fires prompted management to hire security.

"They had at least two security officers on duty throughout the night out here," said Fire Chief Wade Simmons. "We still had another incident."

The arsonist set another room on fire around 7:45 a.m. All together, four fires in less than 24 hours.

"It just really sucks," Dixon said. "They should really find out what's going on, and it's sad for employees too."

No arrest have been made yet, but investigators have been working around the clock to find the person or people responsible.
