One case of H1N1 confirmed at ETMC in Tyler

Posted: Updated:
TYLER, TX (KLTV) - As the flu continues to spread across Texas, East Texas Medical Center in Tyler has confirmed a case of H1N1, more commonly known as swine flu.

ETMC spokeswoman Rebecca Berkley says that the H1N1 case was discovered during the week of December 22. 59 people also tested positive for the flu that week.

The numbers have risen every week since the week of December 8, when 20 patients tested positive for the flu. The following week, the number rose to 46 confirmed cases at ETMC.

Two Gregg County residents died from the H1N1 virus in December. Neither of them had received a flu shot.

H1N1 was also confirmed as one of the 'mystery illnesses' that killed four people in Montgomery County, TX in December.

Starting Thursday, physicians are being advised to give their patients Tamiflu if they are showing flu-like symptoms. The H1N1 virus is included in this year's flu shot.
