"Jon Jon" was a prison guard for TDCJ Skyview Unit in Rusk. In mid-2012 he went to the doctor for a cough and they found that he had a severe blockage known as the "widow maker." He had open heart surgery and did cardiac rehabilitation, in addition to having to take blood pressure medications and diuretics. He eventually went back to work and led his normal life.
In June 2013 he experienced some heart complications and needed a heart transplant, but was too weak to wait or even have the operation. He went home on hospice care and died at the age of 37.
He was a wonderful, hard working man, full of life. He loved to laugh. He was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and was even buried in his jersey. He was and still is loved by everyone that knew him.
